“WHAT SHE SAID” SERIES

Sharon W. Betters is a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, pastor’s wife, and cofounder of MARKINC Ministries, where she is the Director of Resource Development. Sharon is the author of several books, including Treasures of Encouragement, Treasures in Darkness, and co-author with Susan Hunt of Aging with Grace. She is the co-host of the Help & Hope podcast and writes Daily Treasure, an online devotional.

Have you ever listened to a speaker, read a blog post, article and book and resonated so much with the truth communicated that you knew you couldn’t say it better and you wanted to exclaim, “What she said!”

God has encouraged and inspired me by gifted communicators, many of whom I have never met. After reading their work, I often sit back and exclaim, “What she said!” I’m delighted to introduce some of them to you through the devotional series "What She Said". We are kicking off this theme as a summer series and then periodically we will introduce you to other writers in between new devotional series. Each writer brings a unique style but shared passion in proclaiming the help and hope of the Gospel through their writing and speaking. I suspect that you know many of them through studying their books or following their blogs. Some of those whose writing will encourage you each morning:

"What She Said" Writers

Susan Tell is the wife of William Tell, a great name if you want people to remember you. Mother of two married sons (one a PCA pastor), two delightful daughter-in-laws, and Mana (gramma) to six special gifts to our family, ages 2-16. Sue is a member of Village 7 Presbyterian, where she enjoys the ministry of mentoring. Her ministry loves: writing, mentoring, and speaking, and she is the author of Echoes of Grace, written to invite readers to better understand life through the lens of God’s grace, suetell.com. Sue loves traveling - especially to warm places - with my husband. At home, walks with Molly (our Golden Retriever).

Patsy Kuipers often refers to herself as “Gardening Grammie,” a title encompassing two of her favorite pastimes. Widowed at age 38, she was blessed to be gainfully employed for all the years she spent raising two daughters on her own. When her job was eliminated several years ago, she returned to school to study horticulture, a passion born of caring for the garden her husband left as part of his legacy. Patsy is Grammie to three young but enthusiastic garden helpers. She enjoys teaching them about plants and the One who created them. She is a member of Grace Covenant Church in Dallas, GA where she serves on the Women’s Ministry Committee and leads women’s Bible studies. Patsy started her blog, Back 2 the Garden (patsykuipers.com), to tell others of God’s great love and faithfulness. In 2020, she realized a long-time dream when she compiled some of the lessons she’s learned in her garden into a book, “Be Still, Quiet Moments With God in My Garden.”

Carla (Hannuksela) Miller is a wife, mother of four, and grandmother of eight.  She retired from teaching children with autism but still loves learning, writing, and reading. Her husband Gregg was a youth pastor, associate pastor and senior pastor over 40 years of church ministry. She is discovering new paths to explore in their beautiful state, attacking crossword puzzles, and relishing time with her family.

Robin Davenport is a wife, mother and grandmother. She and her family live in the beautiful north Georgia mountains. Robin has worked in the field of developmental disabilities for over 20 years and currently serves as the director of a small non-profit agency who provides services to adults with developmental disabilities. Robin teaches women's bible study through her local church. She loves to study the scriptures and share with others how God has walked with her family through the darkest of times.

Elizabeth Turnage, writer, story coach, teacher, and the founder of Living Story ministries (www.elizabethturnage.com). She is passionate about helping people learn, live, and love in God’s story of grace. A blogger and the author of three Bible studies published by P&R Publishing, she is a popular conference and retreat speaker.

Elizabeth and her co-leader, Kelly Markham, a social worker and palliative care expert, help participants create a binder or file containing all of the important documents, information, passwords, and core values they need today and their loved ones will need later. Check out the website: Organizing Your Life and Legacy Workshop.

Elizabeth is married to an orthopedic surgeon, Kip Turnage, and they have four adult children, plus three added by marriage. They are also the devoted “parents” of their personal therapy dog, Rosie.
