Sharon is a speaker, Bible teacher, author, and co-founder of MARKINC Ministries, a nonprofit organization she leads alongside her husband, Dr. Chuck Betters. For decades, Sharon has offered biblical help and hope to hurting people through her writing, speaking, podcasts, and discipleship resources, all shaped by her deep confidence in the faithfulness of God.

As the mother of four young children, Sharon experienced the sustaining grace of God during a battle with Stage 3 breast cancer. Years later, after the sudden death of her sixteen-year-old son, Mark, the truths of Scripture became even more precious as she wrestled honestly with grief, suffering, and the sovereignty of God. Out of those painful seasons came a ministry devoted to encouraging others who are walking through life’s darkest valleys.

Sharon is the author of several books, including Treasures of Encouragement, Treasures in Darkness: A Grieving Mother Shares Her Heart, and co-authored with Susan Hunt Aging with Grace: Flourishing in an Anti-Aging Culture. She also co-authored Treasures of Faith with Chuck. Through every book and resource, Sharon points readers to the hope of the Gospel and the redeeming love of Christ.

Since 1969, Sharon has taught women’s Bible studies and served in women’s ministry in every church Chuck has pastored. Today, her ministry continues through MARKINC’s many outreach efforts, including the Daily Treasure devotional, Help & Hope podcast, conferences, and resources designed to help people discover purpose, joy, and lasting hope in Christ, even when the lights in life go out.

Sharon often says every season of life brings new opportunities to learn dependence on Jesus. She believes every relationship is a “sandpaper opportunity,” where God uses both joys and struggles to shape His people by grace. Sharon and Chuck remain committed to calling back to those coming behind them: “God is sovereign, and you can trust Him.”

Sharon treasures time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. She especially enjoys long conversations filled with laughter, family gatherings, cousin dinners, game nights, and time spent with her four sisters.

Sharon has a heart to call back to those younger in their faith journey, to offer her life lessons and Scriptural truths, “hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places (Isaiah 45:3), gleaned over the years from God’s Word as a testimony to His faithfulness and steadfastness in the tragic and mundane moments of life. The following books, small-group study lessons, websites, and other resources offer opportunities to connect and build community, and to offer encouragement and “sisterhood” as we are pulled together by a common hope: “to taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 348:4).

Treasures of Encouragement tells the story of how the Lord met me in the wilderness of grief, often by sending His comfort and strength through His people. My goal twenty-five years ago was to help women not only better experience the same extreme comfort, but also to understand and practice the beauty, privilege, and power of biblical encouragement, especially as a means to invite others to trust the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness in the mundane moments and especially in the broken places of life…

Aging With Grace by the Power of the Gospel: There are many blessings that come with age: retirement, grandchildren, travel, and life experience. Today’s culture, however, marginalizes old age, often portraying it as burdensome and hopeless. Many older women can feel like an encumbrance rather than a blessing to their friends and family members. In response to these struggles, Sharon Betters and Susan Hunt encourage women to find hope through both real-life and biblical accounts of women who rediscovered gospel-rooted joy later in life. In each chapter, readers will be encouraged as they experience afresh a gospel that is big enough, good enough, and powerful enough to make every season of life significant and glorious…

Treasures in Darkness, Private Facebook Page: Seeking to build a compassionate community for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Grief can feel overwhelming, but even in the darkest moments, there are hidden treasures—memories, lessons, love, and strength—that help us move forward.

This is a safe space to share your journey, find support, and discover hope alongside others who understand. Whether you need a listening ear, encouragement, or simply a place to honor your loved one, you are not alone.

Together, we can find light in the darkness…
