What She Said ~ Part 13 ~ Week 3
Perseverance
by Sharon W. Betters
TODAY’S TREASURE
Dear Friends,
I met Pamela Bunn at a women’s event, and as she shared some of her writing with the women, I knew she should write for Daily Treasure. I’m so glad she agreed! This week Pamela asks us to consider the topic of perseverance. As I read her words, I remembered a moment from long ago, when God’s word reminded me that the power to persevere comes from our Father through His son, Jesus. I was barely 19 years old and breaking up with Chuck, the man who is now my husband. He was in Pittsburgh visiting relatives. I left a “Dear Chuck” note on his door, quit my job, and was driving to the bank to close out my account. The downpour reflected the tears streaming down my cheeks as I repeated over and over again, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Only through Jesus could I persevere in obedience to God’s call. (I know these comments may raise a lot of questions, but the answers are for another time.)
Pam unpacks this theme of perseverance by sharing:
“The days of a child of God compose, as Eugene Peterson described, a long obedience in the same direction. They require perseverance in steady plodding with our unchanging God, who is worthy of our best and all, at the helm. Endurance is both commanded and commended in the Scriptures and encompasses every aspect of a Christian’s life.
Perseverance in:
Worship: His Throne, My Sanctuary
Prayer: The Longer We Soak
Surrender: “I Must Come to Your House Today”
Obedience: Walk Before Me
Relationships: Contend or Content?
Hardship: “Blessed are Those who Mourn”
Whether you are struggling with persevering in the mundane moments - raising children, balancing too many responsibilities, working hard for a difficult boss - or in the profound pain of life - loss of a loved one, a broken marriage, a difficult medical diagnosis - Pam’s insights will help equip you to persevere in your walk of faith.
Treasured by Him,
Sharon
