“WHAT SHE SAID” series

Sharon W. Betters is a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, pastor’s wife, and cofounder of MARKINC Ministries, where she is the Director of Resource Development. Sharon is the author of several books, including Treasures of Encouragement, Treasures in Darkness, and co-author with Susan Hunt of Aging with Grace. She is the co-host of the Help & Hope podcast and writes Daily Treasure, an online devotional.

Have you ever listened to a speaker, read a blog post, article and book and resonated so much with the truth communicated that you knew you couldn’t say it better and you wanted to exclaim, “What she said!”

God has encouraged and inspired me by gifted communicators, many of whom I have never met. After reading their work, I often sit back and exclaim, “What she said!” I’m delighted to introduce some of them to you through the devotional series "What She Said". We are kicking off this theme as a summer series and then periodically we will introduce you to other writers in between new devotional series. Each writer brings a unique style but shared passion in proclaiming the help and hope of the Gospel through their writing and speaking. I suspect that you know many of them through studying their books or following their blogs. Some of those whose writing will encourage you each morning:

"What She Said" Writers

Marlys Roos is publications coordinator for the PCA’s Committee on Discipleship Ministries. She, her husband, and son live in Atlanta and are members of Perimeter Church.

Jenny Marcelene I spent six years living in conservative Muslim countries and desire to help parents and children catch a glimpse of how God is at work among the nations. I've traveled to 30 countries (and I'm not counting layovers when you don't actually leave the airport—that's cheating in my book!) and marvel at how each culture uniquely reflects aspects of God’s character like a multi-faceted diamond.

I work as a freelance writer and editor, including projects for Oakseed Ministries International. Once upon a time I worked as a Children’s Ministry and Curriculum Coordinator at my previous church for three years. I'm a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (that's a long name for children's writers!) and hope*writers. Visit her website

Lisa Wallover loves writing and creating gospel-centered resources for the local church. Married to PCA pastor David Wallover, she is author of the Post Tenebras Lux Series of five Good Friday services, published by the Presbyterian Church in America.

This series was created within the context of a local church community which deeply embraces the rich truth that God’s grace is greater than our sin and shines all the brighter against the darkness.

Lisa also assists with Midwest Alliance Readiness Seminars for church planting couples, and is a member of both the Parakaleo Leadership Community and the PCA’s WE (Wives of Elders) Connect Team. She has contributed articles to byFaith online and the enCourage blog.

As empty nesters, Lisa and David love traveling to visit their kids’ new nests.
