Treasures
of Faith
Have you ever wrestled with the questions “Is God really sovereign?” or “Can I truly trust Him?” The book of Hebrews was written for people who asked the same things. These short sermons were given to first-century believers who were persecuted, afraid, and tempted to abandon their faith. They longed to know whether God could redeem their suffering and use their pain to strengthen others or draw unbelievers to Himself.
The answer was yes, and the path was faith. True faith comes from God, the One who directs every detail of our lives and loves us with a depth we cannot measure. This kind of faith can softly remind our hearts that God does all things well, even when we are crying out, “Where are You, God?”
How do we cultivate this kind of faith? We find part of the answer in Hebrews 11. This series, Treasures of Faith, is adapted from the book, Treasures of Faith, Living Boldly in View of God’s Promises, co-authored by Chuck and Sharon Betters. Just as the Hebrew believers needed desperately to remember God had made a covenant to strengthen his people, to love them, to be with them, to redeem them, so do we. In this short series, we will be reminded:
God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?
Numbers 23:19
Since God kept His promises of the past we can also trust Him to keep His promises for the present and for the future. In Hebrews 11 we are given a priceless vision of what God has already accomplished through the covenant and through the faithful men and women who trusted Him. We are also given an encouraging glimpse of what lies ahead for us because of that same covenant, a vision that gives our lives and work here on earth new meaning. Spurred on by this vision we can persevere, by faith, no matter what our circumstances can be.
We hope these devotionals will whet your appetite and encourage you to dig deep into Hebrews 11 on your own. If you prefer to read the entire book these devotion are adapted from, P&R is offering Treasures of Faith for $3.00 each! The Leader’s Guide for $2.00. Supplies are limited.

Chuck’s passion for building a spiritual legacy is reflected in his commitment to preaching through the Scriptures unapologetically for 40+ years. When the death of his sixteen-year-old son Mark confronted him with life’s hardest questions, he transparently tackled those hard doctrines and painful places of life. Out of the grief of his family, MARKINC Ministries was established as a means to offer help and hope to hurting people. He continues to engage the spiritual needs of people through the MARKINC Ask Dr. Better’s Video series.
