God's Everlasting Kingdom

TODAY’S TREASURE

Stories of kings, queens, and kingdoms fascinate me. Living in America means I cannot fully understand the idea of power belonging to one person. There are so many stories about the jealousy of others who wanted power and sought to kill the king to have it. This can never happen in God's kingdom. God's kingdom is everlasting! Nothing can overthrow Him, and His kingdom will never fail.

The Gospels and the teachings of Jesus are all about God's kingdom. We are told through sermons and parables that all earthly kingdoms are pointing to the one true kingdom of God. The parables, in particular, hold such mysteries of this kingdom and its power. As recorded in Matthew 13, Jesus told The Parable of the Sower and then explained it to help the disciples understand. We read that the word of the kingdom can be compared to a seed that falls on different types of soil. Jesus's lesson warns us about the path, the rocky ground, and the thorns and encourages us to have hearts like good soil, prepared to receive the gospel. And the power of that good soil? Tiny seeds can flourish and produce an abundant harvest!

Just as the psalmist began, we are reminded in the middle of Psalm 145 that it is our joyful duty to tell the next generation about this amazing kingdom and the power of the King. God Himself is sustaining His kingdom through generations of His people. I'm so encouraged to be reminded that He is doing something that began before us and will continue after we leave this earth. The harvest will be His people living in His eternal kingdom for all of eternity.

LIFE-GIVING ENCOURAGEMENT

The book of Acts shows us how God grew His kingdom here on earth. Acts 28:23 tells us of Paul relaying to the Romans how God had fulfilled His promises to His people and trying to persuade them about Jesus, the One whom God sent to accomplish His purposes. What children are in your life who can hear you speak of the glory of God's kingdom? Are you telling them of God's power in Scripture and in your own life? Make known to the children of man His mighty deeds! Point them to Jesus as you share the salvation you've received.
