Waiting
By Sharon Betters
Today’s Treasure
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
Dear Friends,
Every one of us has or will experience medical waiting rooms throughout our lives. These challenging moments that can stretch into hours, days and sometimes years, can be terrifying. It doesn’t take much for me to step back into that scary place of waiting to learn if I had cancer or if I was following my mother’s footsteps toward congestive heart failure. More recently are my memories of waiting for news from the surgeon after a complicated surgery on Chuck, then waiting for hours just to see him. Elizabeth Turnage, this week’s Guest Writer knows the challenges of the waiting room and offers help and hope through her new book, The Waiting Room.
Whether you are in a waiting room right now because of cancer, stroke, traumatic injury, a child struggling to hold on to life, a health crisis of any kind, you know the emotions of waiting – fear of the unknown, sadness over knowing life will never be the same, anger – you name it. Yet, in the midst of it all, Elizabeth reminds us of the certain hope and peace of the gospel.
Elizabeth has graciously given me permission to share the first five devotionals in her book with our Daily Treasure family. These writings will give you a taste of the hope she shares in the sixty devotionals in her book designed to encourage you as you wait.
Waiting. We don’t like it. We wouldn’t choose it. Yet in the middle of that waiting room, there is hope in Jesus. I pray this week’s devotionals will help turn your heart toward Him if you are in that waiting room or equip you to offer help and hope to a waiting friend.
Treasured by Him,
Sharon
