Journey to Christmas with the Midwives of the Messiah
By Sharon W. Betters
Today’s Treasure
Dear Friends,
So what is a “midwife of the Messiah”? The Apostle Paul challenged Pastor Titus to “teach the older women so that they could teach the younger women” how to walk by faith in their own personal lives. Each of the “midwives of the Messiah,” the five women included in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1, is an older woman whose life experiences encourage and equip us for the pathways God has marked out for us. The Lord has taught me vital life lessons through each of these women, so much so that I consider them spiritual mothers. Through their personal faith in the love and goodness of our God, Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Mary dare us to trust God in the seemingly impossible seasons of life. Although their stories flow from an ancient time, when all seemed lost, their example of obedience will stir up your resolve to want to experience the deep love of Jesus.
Each Sunday look for a brief devotional introducing you to the week’s topic, along with suggested Scriptures, suggested reading in the book Harlots and Heroines, The Midwives of the Messiah and a link to a message my husband Chuck preached on the midwife who will join us on our journey. Reading just the devotional will encourage you with a key truth from the “midwife’s” life, but the more of these resources you access, the more you will learn.
So let’s begin our Journey to Christmas with the Midwives of the Messiah! Forward this message to friends and invite them to join us!
Treasured by Him,
Sharon
